Jimbo and Pattie McClain Win on Lay Lake
Jimbo and Pattie McClain won the American Couples Series, operated by American Bass Anglers, Central Alabama Division 1 tournament, held September 26, 2015, on Lay Lake. Running out of Paradise Point Marina near Shelby, the team from Alexander City, AL, caught five bass weighing 13.41 pounds with a 3.20 pound kicker. For the victory, they earned a check for $630.00. The McClain's caught their fish on main river ledges using a worm.
In second among the 14 teams, Doug & Rose Marie Goodall of Wetumpka, AL, caught five bass weighing 11.05 pounds. They caught most of their fish on main river ledges and pocketed a check for $420.00. Doug won the Men's Big Fish contest with a 3.92 pound lunker that he caught on a frog in shallow grass.
Taking third place, the team of Donathon & Sherry Jacks of Clanton, AL, caught five bass weighing 8.83 pounds.
In fourth place, Shawn and Jamie Wikoff of Smiths Station, AL, caught five bass weighing 8.41 pounds. Jamie won the Ladies Big Fish title with a 3.40 pound lunker.
Terry Durham from McCalla and Ann Boatright of Cleveland, AL, rounded out the top five teams with five bass weighing 6.92 pounds.
All ABA American Couples Series events involve a team format with each team composed of one man and one woman. Contestants between 14 and 18 years old may participate with a parent's written permission.
The next divisional tournament TBA. The top angling couples from across the nation earn the right to compete in the annual American Bass Anglers Couples Series National Championship.
