Barclays Win on Kentucky Lake
Sunday, April 30th was another great day to be fishing on Kentucky Lake, that is if you don’t mind fishing in rain and 20 plus MPH winds all day. Seven teams braved the challenging conditions of the day and the competition was very close. Despite the conditions the bite was still good as the teams brought in 26 fish weighing 71.36 pounds, all released alive and well.
Eddie and Tammy Barclay lead the way with a 5 bass limit weighing 14.58 pounds. They finished .02 pounds ahead of second place Jay and Shari Holsapple. The Barclays walked away with $315 for 1st place, catching their fish shallow on jigs, brush hogs, and spinnerbaits.
Jay and Shari Holsapple anchored their 5-fish limit with a nice 3.77 largemouth for a total of 14.56 pounds edging out Mike Roe’s 3.75 catch to capture Men’s Big Bass. The Holsapples cashed out at $245 for 2nd place and Men’s Big Bass, they also caught their fish shallow with jigs, brush hogs, and spinnerbaits.
Ladies Big Bass was caught by Cindy Linton weighing in at 3.67, just ahead of Kim Tywater’s 3.65 earning her $35.
Robert and Cindy Linton were third with a 5-fish limit weighing 13.22 pounds.
New members, Jamie and Angela Gordon took fourth place with 4 fish at 10.97 pounds.
The weights were extraordinarily close, anyone could have taken today’s prize money.
Despite the extreme weather conditions, everyone enjoyed the day. There were drinks and snacks at the weigh-in. Duane and Gabby Bowling along with Bubba and Kim Tywater picked up a couple of prizes awarded by drawing for two teams that did not finish in the money. These prizes were generously contributed by The Cain Pole of Richmond, KY and Renegade Marine of Litchfield, KY. We will be giving away much more in future tournaments!
Our next tournament will be held on Kentucky Lake at the Fenton Ramp on May 21st. We will launch at 6:00 AM and weigh-in at 2:00 PM. We will be at the ramp for boat check and late registrations at 5:00 AM.
All ABA American Couples Series events involve a team format with each team composed of one man and one woman. Although many married couples compete together as teams, some teams consist of boyfriend and girlfriend combinations, parent-child combinations or just two friends. Contestants between 12 and 18 years old may participate with a parent’s written permission.
The top angling couples from across the nation earn the right to compete in the annual American Bass Anglers Couples Series National Championship tournament.
