Jay and Shari Holsapple win on Kentucky Lake
Jay and Shari Hosapple of Kevil, KY won the American Couples Series Kentucky Lake Division tournament held on August 13th, 2017 on Kentucky Lake. Blasting off from Big Bear ramp near Benton, KY Jay and Shari brought back a 5-fish limit locking in on the scales at 14lbs. Jay and Shari made a run to Lake Barkley, where they fished roadbeds with jigs. The move paid off with a 5 fish limit weighing in at 14 pounds even. The Holsapples took home $450 in cash for their day’s work, along with a nice Championship Plaque. Their title was well deserved, as they have been consistent all year, finishing in the top five in every event!
Cory York took 2nd place with 5 fish weighing in at 11.03 pounds. Cory caught his fish in Pisgah Bay using Pop-Rs and big worms on points and ledges respectively. Cory took home $275 for his efforts.
Scott and Brandi Vanover took 3rd place with 3 fish weighing 9 pounds even. Their sack was anchored by a very nice 5.15 pound largemouth taken by Brandi. That fish took Ladies Big Bass honors. They Vanovers caught their fish on main lake points with primarily square billed crankbaits. Their payday totaled $155 for those results.
4th Place went to Duane and Gabby Bowling with 2 fish crossing the scales at 5.26 pounds.
Jerrod Easley took 5th Place and Men’s Big Bass with a 4.75 largemouth. He collected $55 for that catch.
11 teams came out for the final tournament of the 2017 trail, and were greeted with a beautiful day for fishing on Kentucky Lake. Going into this event there was 5 teams in the running for claiming the Series Championship Title, but Jay and Shari Hosapple claimed the title with their second first place finish of the year.
It was a perfect day for fishing, food and fellowship. After this, our final 2017 event, we all gathered at the Big Bear Picnic area for a fantastic BBQ. We had a great time and great food. A special thank you is in order for Andrew and Kourtney Roe and Steve, Karen, and Cole Blanford for volunteering their time (all night and day) to cook/smoke the food and set up the tables for all to eat. We had 4 smoked butts, BBQ beans, pasta salad, home-made beer cheese and drinks.
After the feast, we gave out nearly $2,500 in prizes through random draws. Included in the prizes were two of the BBQ Butts, several reels (Quantum, Lew’s, Shimano), Mercury oil, knives, flashlights, baits, tackle boxes and other miscellaneous items. Every team received at least two prizes.
We would like to send a special thank you out to Duckett Fishing for donating 10 gift coupons to be given as prizes. Each coupon was good for 50% off any Duckett Rod or Reel. The total value of these alone would be approximately $1250 or more.
Also, we would like to thank Robert Linton for donating approximately 50 beautiful home-made jigs for the drawing.
We would also like to give a warm welcome to Orville and Vicki Merkel, they was their first tournament in our division, and we are glad to have them fishing with us all.
This concludes our 2017 regular season. We have several teams going to the National Championship in October at Lake Eufala, Alabama. I look forward to that event and wish our teams a great safe and successful experience.
We hope to have our 2018 schedule out soon. We hope you all return and bring another couple with you! We hope to make this Division bigger and better next year. Everyone have a blessed and safe off-season.
